Uma Sree was born into a family where the love for language and culture was deeply ingrained. As the daughter of a Malayalam teacher, her passion for the language began to flourish. She then pursued higher studies at Sri Kerala Varma College, Thrissur, one of Kerala's most prestigious institutions, where she continued to deepen her knowledge and love for Malayalam by earning a BA in the subject.

Growing up, Uma Sree was greatly influenced by her mother's storytelling and the many books she read. Her deep connection to the Malayalam language and culture was nurtured from an early age. Despite the prevailing notion that studying Malayalam wouldn't lead to significant job opportunities, Uma Sree remained steadfast in her decision to pursue her passion. Her time at Kerala Varma College not only enriched her academically but also awakened the reader and writer within her.
The desire to teach was planted early in Uma Sree’s life. After completing her undergraduate studies, Uma Sree pursued a B.Ed at Kaladi Shankaracharya University, where she excelled. Following this, she enrolled in distance education at Calicut University for an MA in Malayalam.
In June 1999, Uma Sree joined IES Public School in Thrissur district as a high school teacher, where she found her true calling. She was determined to instill in her students a deep love and respect for the Malayalam language and the rich cultural heritage it represents.
Uma Sree firmly believes that one's mother tongue is the language of the human mind, the medium through which emotions are best expressed. Yet, she observes with concern that the current generation often prioritizes foreign languages, sometimes at the expense of their native tongue. Her mission is to cultivate a student community that values both their mother tongue and foreign languages. She is dedicated to shaping a new generation that understands and cherishes the legends, myths, and history of their culture while embracing the goodness of their language.
Through her teaching, Uma Sree aspires to mold her students into individuals who are not only proficient in multiple languages but also deeply rooted in their cultural identity.
